How to draw feet for shoes
Learning how to draw feet for shoes becomes much easier when you understand the simple form of the foot underneath them.Rather than starting with the outline of the shoe, I first construct the basic proportions and shape of the foot.
In this demonstration, I simplify the foot into basic forms and use a few key measurements to establish its length, height and main changes of direction. The shoe can then be designed around that underlying structure.
This helps prevent the shoe from feeling flat or disconnected from the leg and makes it easier to invent different types of footwear.
Quick takeaway
Before drawing a shoe, ask yourself:
What is the basic shape of the foot underneath?
Where are the main changes of direction in the foot?
How is the shoe wrapping around that underlying form?
Construct the foot first, then build the shoe around it.
